UK Campsites – England, Scotland & Wales
During our tour of the United Kingdom, we stayed at a number of parks and ‘wild caravanned‘ too, one of the fun spots we camped was by Loch Ness, in search of the monster from the deep… The parks below are the ones we stayed in that were particularly good and well worth recommending.
Camping site costs in the UK vary from being very fair and economical for families or groups to being ridiculously overpriced with add-on fees for extra services. The sites below vary in this way and please do check prices before arriving at any site.

Oban is a beautiful little village with ferry access to the Inner Hebridean Islands of Mull etc. We have stayed in this site on two occasions and love the views.

On the shores of Loch Eil, the Linnhe Lochside Holidays park offers peaceful sites for caravans, motor homes, tents and has cabins to hire as well. A pretty setting and well-managed site with close access to Fort William and the most westerly point of the British mainland, Ardnamuchan.

Cruising the east coast of Scotland, towards the most northerly point of the British mainland, we stopped overnight at the Inver Caravan Park. Sites for tent and vans with super views across farmland and to the coast. A small park, well run and with very good amenities.

7 miles West of Edinburgh, but within easy reach, is the Linwater Caravan and Camping Park. The friendly, family run park was one of the most welcoming sites we stayed at in the U.K. excellent facilities and a great location with 2 park and ride services handy for Edinburgh.

Another Caravan Park we stayed at on our return south to Edinburgh. Morton Hall is a busy site with great facilities, easy access by car or bus to Edinburgh and set amongst farmland.

A stunning place in the Yorkshire Dales. This family-run campsite is surrounded by fields and the beautiful stone walls of the dales. An easy walk into the village of Hawes and central to many of the regional attractions. Clean with good facilities and well managed.

We stayed at 2 sites in the Wye Valley. Beeches farm was a winner. Set in a couple of fields on a farm, away from traffic noise and high up above Tintern Abbey with walks through the woods to amazing view points and down to the Abbey. Each site, set well apart from the next, with a designated fire pit available for each pitch.
Electric hookup available, a few cabins are available for rent and firewood is for sale. It is a quiet site that does not encourage, or tolerate loud groups.
The Wye Valley is a designated area of ‘Outstanding Natural Beauty’, canoeing on the Wye River is a major attraction.
LAKE DISTRICT

Well set out and maintained site with good facilities, this park is for caravans, motor homes and static cabin rentals. Located in farm country and easy drives to discover some stunning areas of the southern the Lake District.
Camping and non-electric hookup pitches are nearby at Black Beck Farm Holidays. We did not stay here or see the site, but it was an option and does have tent pitches.

This is a pretty site that we have stayed at in earlier years camping in the Lake District. By the shores of Brotherswater, with mountain peaks surrounding the park. Good little pub on site and decent facilities.

Bushes Farm Caravan Park is a peaceful place, set among trees on a working farm. Camping and caravanning is available.
It is a small, family-run site with good amenities and views across the countryside. An ideal base to explore the area.

NEW FOREST
The New Forest is worthy of more than just a drive-through. Stop, stay and soak up the history and unique charm. We stayed at a few sites in the forest and enjoyed idyllic days of walking, relaxing by streams, enjoying the villages and watching the ponies wander through villages and across heathlands.
All these sites have walking trails and New Forest Ponies wandering through, there is a theme here! I love the ponies so always wanted to camp at a site where they were a part of the scene too.

Close to the village of Brockenhurst, yet quiet and one of the nicest spots we stayed. Actually, it was my favourite site in the forest. We had one of the best pitches – opposite the wooded area with the stream for the kids to play in and views across to the heathlands.
There is a pretty little stream running through the woods by the site and open heathland bordering the camping area too.
Ponies wander freely and are a pleasure to watch.
This site requires campers to have their own toilet facilities. There are a water point, chemical toilet dump points and an office. No showers or loos.

All facilities available, toilets, showers, Chemical toilet dump points and water. This is a lovely site too, though can be noisy with constant traffic along the main Lyndhurst to Brockenhurst road. If you can camp closer to the open heathland, it is a little quieter. It is a big site that gets very busy but has ponies roaming through and an easy walk into Brockenhurst and local pubs.

This is a huge, spread out site sitting between Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Beaulieu. Toilet facilities, showers and chemical toilet dump points. Quite an open setting in an elevated position with ponies wandering through. Not within easy walking to villages, but plenty of walking trails.

Ocknell campsite is in the north of the New Forest and is an unusual campsite as it is laid out on a disused airfield. A remnant of the last war. Toilet facilities, though no showers. Chemical Toilet dump and fresh water.
Noisy, sadly, as the A27 cuts straight through the New Forest, not too far away from the Ocknell site.

Managed by the staff at the Ocknell site, Longbeech has no facilities other than water and chemical toilet dump. Set in the forest, the traffic noise is ever-present, but not too bad. Plenty of walking trails from the site and some lovely secluded areas to pitch.

This was quite a nice little site. A few ‘levels’ of pitches available, basic and more secluded ones. A disused railway that is now a bike trail from Brockenhurst, cuts through the site. Undulating, with plenty of shade and lovely walks onto the heathland.
Not many sites listed really, considering we toured for months in the U.K. with our caravan. This is due to a combination of friends and family to stay with, our love of camping in wild (free) places and a few sites that we stayed at but do not recommend overly and so have not added them here.
